Making the Switch to Vaping

What is vaping?

what-is-vaping
For those who aren’t in the know, vaping is the inhalation of vapour produced by an electronic cigarette (also known as an e-cigarette) or any other device used for vaping.

The way e-cigarettes and vaping devices work is by heating a liquid known as e-liquid – which is contained in a tank – via components known as coils. This produces vapour that is then inhaled.

Vaping has seen a boom in recent years, with statistics showing that the number of people who vape has increased rapidly, from 7 million vapers globally in 2011 to 41 million in 2018.

The reason for this sudden growth in vape usage may be attributed to the fact that it can be a

safer and less addictive alternative to cigarettes, making it the ideal option for those trying to quit smoking.

How to make the switch to vaping?

So, you’ve decided to make the switch from smoking to vaping – excellent choice!

However, the transition can be difficult, so here is a quick-start guide:

Choose your e-liquid flavour There are so many e-juice options out there to pick from, that you may need some help figuring out how to pick an e-liquid flavour for you!

The answer is wonderfully simple – try, try, and try again! Determine what flavours you already know you love, and experiment from there. We have a wide range of e-liquid flavours for you to pick from, from mouth-wateringly sweet e-juice flavours to dark tobacco-flavoured e-liquids.

Pick a vaping device For those who are brand-new to the world of vaping, the knowledge of how to choose a vape kit doesn’t come naturally. Luckily for you, we’re here to help!

There are the three main types of vape devices:

1. Disposable cig-a-likes - featuring a super-simple design and pre-filled disposable cartridges, these kits most resemble cigarettes and are very popular amongst beginners.
Propylene-glycol
2. Pen-style kits – these kits often come with refillable tanks that allow you to vape a wide variety of e-liquids; they are often easy to use, making them the next best choice for beginner vapers

3. Box mods – larger kits that are often best-suited for more experienced vapers, as they tend to possess a variety of adjustable settings

We offer a large catalogue of vape kits to choose from – start exploring and experimenting today!

What is e-liquid?

E-liquid is the liquid that is held within a vape kit, and is heated up to around 90-200°C
vegetable-glycerine
and turned into the vapour that you inhale. They come in a wide range of different e-liquid flavours, offering you huge flexibility in terms of choice – no matter your tastes, there’s probably a flavour for you!

E-liquids are usually made up of a ratio of two main substances, which gives the juice its properties:

Propylene glycol (PG) – PG is a thin (i.e. low-viscosity) liquid that is both odourless and colourless. It helps to thin out the consistency of the e-liquid, facilitates more efficient heating, and provides the “throat-hit” that is common in cigarette smoking.
High-PG
Vegetable glycerine (VG) – A derivative of vegetable oil, VG is a liquid that is thicker in consistency than PG, which results in the formation of denser clouds. VG also possesses its own flavour, adding sweetness to the taste of the e-liquid.

Understanding e-liquid varieties

liquids can be categorised into several different variants based on their VG/PG ratio – different ratios of these substances can lead to different e-liquid properties.

High-PG e-liquids –e-liquids with a high PG content (often known as “classic” e-liquids) offer a stronger “throat hit” akin to that provided by cigarette smoking.
High-VG e-liquids
These types of e-liquids are, therefore, preferred by those making the switch from smoking, and are best suited for low-wattage vape kits.

High-VG e-liquids – on the other end of the spectrum, these e-liquids contain a higher VG content than PG. This variety of e-liquid is best used with high-wattage devices, and are suited for sub-ohm and direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping.

50/50 e-liquids – featuring an even split of 50% VG and 50% PG, 50/50 e-liquids are highly versatile and can be used with both classic and sub-ohm devices.

These e-liquids are best suited for MTL vaping, a style of vaping which closely emulates cigarette smoking.

What are vape kits?

As previously discussed, vape kits are the devices used to heat up your e-liquid, turning it into vapour that you can inhale.

There are three types of vape kit that we have talked about: disposable cig-a-likes, pen-style kits, and box mods. Each one is best suited for different experience levels and vaping styles, and there is great variety in-between types of vape kit.

Different vape kits can possess a variety of features and specifications, and as you come to learn your preferences and what to look for in a vape kit, you will be able to pick the right vape kit for you.

Vape kits can vary in:

  • Coil resistance
  • Build material
  • Wattage levels
  • Design
  • Technology
  • And more…

How do vape kits work?

To understand how they work, you first need to know what vape kits are made up of.

Vape kits consist of four key components:

Drip tip – this is the part located on the very end of your device, and it is where you inhale the vapor from.

Tank – the tank is the component that holds your e-liquid, and is connected to the drip tip. It is often constructed from either plastic or glass for durability

Coil – coils are the part of the device that heat up the e-liquid; think similar to the way a kettle works. They are made up of wire and cotton and are located within the tank, coming into direct contact with and absorbing the e-liquid

Battery – located in the main body of your kit, the battery powers your device

The stages of vaping can be summarised into three key steps:

  • The battery sends power to the coil.
  • The coil heats up, heating up the e-liquid along with it.
  • The e-liquid reaches a point where it is hot enough to turn into vapour; it is vaporised.
